Raja Raga I's wife is Thirailokki Madevi, the village is named after her. The deity in the Sanctum Sanctorum is Sundarar. Hence the village is called Thirailokki Sundaram. This temple was built by Raja Raja I.
Sri Kailasanatha temple,Srirabti Sayana Narayana temple, Sri Maariamman temple,Sri Kaliamman temple,Sri Ayyanar temple, Sri Vinaga temple etc., are some of the temples in their village. Brigu ,Prahaspathi, Sukethu, Rathi Devi, Karuvurar, Dharuma and others worshipped the deity of this temple. This temple is a parikarasthala. Karuvur Theevar's Thiruvisaippa praises the Lord of these temple.

Two kala poojas are performed every day. Tamil newyear day,Deepavali, karthigai, pongal are celebrated.

Swami(Sundareswara) and Ambal(Agilandeswari) are seated on the Rishaba(Bull). It is a beautiful Sculpture, made up of a single stone. On the backside of the icon sivalinga carved. This sculpture is called Rishabaroodar. GuruBagavan is worshipping Rishabaroodar to get rid of his sins. Rathi and Manmatha sculpture is a special feature of this temple. People worship the deity on Akshaya Tritiya Day for getting health,wealth and prosperity.

There were three sacred tanks (Theertha) namely Lakshimi Theertha, Varuna Theertha, Manasa Theertha.Lakshimi Theertha alone is found today.

The temple tree (Sthala Virutsa) is Sara Kondrai.

It is situated in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk, Thanjavur District. It is 5km south East of Thiruppanandal and 5km North East of Thugili. Thirailokki is very near to Thirumangalakudi,Suriyanar Koil and Kanchanur. Bus facilities are available from Kumbakonam,Mayiladuthurai and Thiruppanandal.
