SAINT APPAR MUKTHI STHALAM
In order to worship Shiva on the Thiravathirai day, Appar traveled to Thiruvarur, on the way he came to Thirupugalur, Saint Sambandar was also there and he received Appar and both stayed at Thirupugalur temple and did (Ulavara Pani) – temple cleaning work for many days. On Chitrai month of Tamil calendar during Sathayam Natchathiram (star) Appar attained the lotus feet of god. Since then Chitirai Sathayam became a big festival in this temple.
