Thirupugalur the Name
Two Arakkans (Surans) named Vilvalan and Vathapi threatened Devas and they in fear came to this place and was hiding from the two Asuras. And hence the name called Pugalur (a place for refuge) and Thiru got added as prefix to Pugalur and called Thirupugalur.
